STATEMENT ON ALLEGED BRIBERY CLAIMS AND ABUSE OF OFFICE BY CABINET SECRETARY FOR DEVOLUTION, HON MWANGI KIUNJURI - WED, 19 OCT 2016

We the undersigned, have noted with concern, media reports of a paper purportedly sent to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission signed by one Delphine Bram Christopher. The paper claims that in a meeting attended by the undersigned at the end July, Devolution and Planning Cabinet Secretary Hon. Mwangi Kiunjuri solicited for a bribe of US$200,000 from Ms. Christopher to operationalize the PBO Act 2013.  It further claims that an initial amount of US$100,000 was paid to the Cabinet Secretary Senior Advisor Ms Wambui Kimathi on 5th September 2016. It also states that Ms. Christopher attended the 9th September meeting at which the CS commenced the PBO Act of 2013 without any changes. MORE

The Society for International Development and Transparency International-Kenya re-affirm their commitment to fighting the cancer of corruption and improving the state of governance in Kenya. Corruption is the singular threat to the constitution vision of our nation, our national security and economy. 70% of all corruption is based on procurement. 20% of our public schools are currently at risk of land grabbing. 54% of Kenyans still believe having a personal relationship with a Public Officer guarantees them faster or better services and 46% believe a bribe is necessary to be effectively served.
