ODM removes four MPS from parliamentary committees

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has removed four of its MPs considered to be rebellious from committees in the National Assembly. The MPs are Ken Obura (Kisumu Central), Samuel Arama (Nakuru Town West), Dalmas Otieno (Rongo) and Zainab Chidzunga (Kwale County Women Representatives). This is yet another move by ODM aimed at enforcing discipline within the party.

Opposition MPs term senator Kajwang’s death mysterious, call for probe

Three opposition MPs John Mbadi (Suba), Opiyo Wandayi (Ugunja) and Aduma Owuor (Nyakach) have asked the Government to investigate what they said was ‘’mysterious death’’ of Homa Bay Senator Otieno Kajwang’. The MPs called for an independent team of pathologists to carry out a post mortem. The MPs said Kajwang’ survived a road accident on Friday when he was headed to Oyugis for a party meeting, and the nature of the accident had not been revealed.

Kenyan women opposed to spouses using condom, Study reveals

Women are opposed to their spouses undergoing vasectomy or using condoms as methods of family planning, a study by National Council for Population Development reveals. The survey also disclosed that some men found the permanence and irreversibility of vasectomy unpleasant and intolerable, it is equal to castration. They think it makes them not function well, and hence lose their masculinity.

Jirongo stops CBK from selling his Sh7bn Ruai land

Former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo has stopped the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) from auctioning his 1,000-acre land in Nairobi’s Ruai estate over a Sh20 billion loan he allegedly owes the bank. Mr Jirongo sought and got the court injunction on Monday just two days before auctioneers were due to put the land up for sale. The CBK, through the KDIC, had planned to auction the land Wednesday to recover money that collapsed Postbank Credit lent Sololo Outlet — a company owned by Mr Jirongo.

UK court reveals anomalies in IIEC poll material orders

The ability of the elections agency to conduct credible polls has come under the spotlight in an ongoing case in a London court where evidence has been adduced showing that current and former officials worked actively against the organisation’s objectives. UK investigators have tabled evidence showing that management and commissioners of the Interim Independent Electoral Commission (IIEC) were keen on ordering more election materials without regard to the actual requirement of national or locals polls.
