Community Research in Environment and Development Initiatives (CREADIS)

Bungoma County CREADIS has continued to advocate for increased meaningful public participation in county planning, security and access to water services in Bungoma County.

CREADIS has been instrumental in pushing for the construction of a police post at Tenstar in Khalaba Ward and an Administrative Police camp at Muslim Area in Musikoma Ward, which is due for completion in August 2015. CREADIS also advocated for the installation of floodlights, already installed in Mayanja market, Mjini, Mteremuko, Wings and Mandizini estates to enhance security. Beyond this CREADIS mobilized for increased public participation in county public consultation forums. The number of participants increased to 300 in 2015 from 101 in 2014, a notable shift that was acknowledged by Bungoma County Assembly Speaker, Mr. John Makali.

CREADIS has gone further to mobilise communities to form watchdog/focus groups responsible for holding leaders accountable for development projects they have committed to implement. [1] CREADIS has also been instrumental in motivating residents in Bungoma County to either donate or sale part of their land for the construction of public utilities.[2] In partnership with village elders and spiritual leaders, CREADIS holds weekly meetings to find ways to curb the drug menace in the county.

CREADIS now plans to expand its work to other wards in the county, work with more women, youth, persons with disability groups and leaders at the National Government level.[3]
