Active Citizenship Programme

In October 2014, the Society for International Development (SID) – Kenya Dialogues Project (KDP) with 10 partner organisations launched the Active Citizenship Programme (ACP) designed to promote active citizenship and responsive governance in 10 counties namely; Bungoma, Garissa, Kajiado, Kisumu, Machakos, Nairobi, Nakuru, Nyeri, Turkana and Taita Taveta. SID has invested KES. 13 million over a 9 months period to support citizen actions and activities between November 2014 and 31 August 2015. The 10 partners have completed Quarter 1 and 2, submitted progress reports for each quarter and are in the process of implement the final Quarter of the Programme.

Advocate for increased meaningful public participation in county planning, security and access to water services in Bungoma County. MORE

Garissa Advocate for improved access to water in Bulla Mzuri location in Wagberi Ward in Garissa Township Sub-County and push for increased public participation in county planning. MORE
Kajiado Policy advocacy to guide collection, harnessing and distribution of water services and the collection and disposal of garbage, including asking the Kajiado County Government to allocate at least KES. 10 million to be used in purchasing and installing litter bins within the county. MORE
Kisumu Policy advocacy to ensure the passage of a Public Participation Bill in Kisumu County. MORE
Machakos Advocate for improved quality of, and increased frequency of citizen participation in the implementation of Devolution in Machakos County. MORE
Nairobi Advocate for improved sanitation and expansion of sewer lines in slums through public participation. MORE
Nakuru Advocate for evidence-based Public Participation in County planning and budgeting. MORE
Nyeri At the county level, advocate for increased human resource in the health sector. At the national level, advocate for increased TB and child immunization. MORE
Taita Taveta Advocate for progressive increase in budgetary allocation to agriculture, livestock, water and environment sectors at the county. MORE
Turkana Monitors extraction, utilization and resource allocation in the oil and natural gas. MORE
